Natural Toto is a blog about natural hair in an African setting, specifically Kenya. The blog highlights different ways to take care of our natural kinks, different hair products available in Kenya, different hair styles and building a community of naturals in Kenya where one can discuss different natural hair related issues.

Natural Toto, a natural hair blog from Kenya was started in May 2012 by Toto, with the aim of reaching fellow natural sistahs & brothas across the world while at the same time communicating of the natural scene in Kenya and across East Africa. Natural Toto means Natural Baby (Toto being Swahili for baby).

Toto’s Natural hair journey begins from childhood. In brief, Toto has never chemically altered her hair since childhood. However she considers herself a “Full Natural” since 2011 when she took a special interest in her hair motivated by her black consciousness/pan-Africanism and inspired by the diaspora natural hair movement. She stopped using heat on her hair, and began researching on healthier ways to take care of her hair, and in her over 1yr hair journey she discovered a deep sense of self and made her fall in love with her coils. She however discovered that as much as she had never chemically altered her hair, the heat that she had frequently used to manage her hair over the years had consequently damaged parts of her hair, thus in September, 2012 she big chopped.
